Things to Do in Cozumel

Cozumel is a playground of turquoise water, world-famous reefs, and laid-back island charm. These are the experiences we love most — and the ones our guests rave about.

Why Divers Come Here

World-Famous Diving & Snorkeling

Cozumel is known for some of the best scuba diving in the world. The island sits beside the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, and the clear, warm Caribbean water makes every dive unforgettable — from dramatic coral walls to playful reef fish and sea turtles. Snorkelers get their own slice of paradise too.

✦

Palancar Reef

One of the most famous dive sites in the world. Towering coral canyons, swim-throughs, and an abundance of sea life just minutes offshore.

✦

Santa Rosa Wall

A breathtaking drop-off covered in sponges and coral, where eagle rays and sea turtles glide past in the blue.

✦

Chankanaab Reef

A protected marine park with calm, clear water — a wonderful choice for newer divers and relaxed shallow dives.

✦

Snorkeling from Shore

Explore rocky coastal entries with a suitable local guide; check sea conditions and choose an entry that fits your swimming ability.

A Must-Do Experience

El Cielo Sandbar

El Cielo — "Heaven" — is exactly what it sounds like. A shallow, crystal-clear sandbar in the middle of the Caribbean, famous for its gentle starfish and water so blue it doesn't look real. You simply anchor, step off the boat, and stand waist-deep in paradise.

Most trips combine El Cielo with a snorkel stop on the reef and time to swim, sip and soak up the sun. We highly recommend it — and we are happy to help you arrange it for your stay.

A Must

Private Boat Service

Renting a private boat is a must. With your own captain, the day is yours — cruise the coastline, stop wherever the water looks best, snorkel the reefs, visit El Cielo, and drop anchor for swimming and cold drinks with the people you love.

Private charters are available for half or full days, and many include snorkel gear, refreshments, and a friendly local crew. It is one of the most memorable ways to experience the island — especially at sunset. We can help you arrange it before your trip.

Amazing Beach Clubs

Cozumel's beach clubs are a favorite way to spend a lazy afternoon — lounge chairs on the sand, Caribbean water at your toes, great food and cold drinks all day long.

The Heart of the Island

Culture & Traditions

Beyond the beaches, Cozumel is a warm, proud island with deep Maya roots and a real love of celebration. Wander the waterfront in San Miguel — the striking Monumento al Mestizaje guards the sea at the north end — and if your dates line up with a local fiesta, go. The color, music, and food are unforgettable.

Local Driver & Tour Guide

Ismael, Your Man on the Island

Ismael Santana was born and raised here in Cozumel, and he is one of the kindest men you will ever meet. He is endlessly accommodating and truly attentive — the kind of person who simply takes care of you.

He looks after the everyday things with the same warmth: grocery runs and errands, drop-offs when it is time to leave, and drives anywhere on the island you would like to go. He is a family man and a proud local, and guests leave feeling like they made a friend here, not just found a driver.

One trick we learned from our own trips: airport cabs hold the pickup contract, so we take a taxi when we land, stop at Diego's Tacos right by the airport, and call Ismael from there — he meets us and brings us home.

Or ask your hosts and we will connect you with Ismael directly.

Airport Drop-offs

When it is time to fly home, he takes you to the airport. Arrivals are different — airport cabs hold that contract, and they are waiting right outside when you land.

Grocery Runs & Errands

Stock the fridge before you settle in, or send him out while you're off on the water.

Island Tours & Sightseeing

A half or full day exploring with someone who grew up here, at whatever pace you like.

Beyond the Beach

A Cenote Day Trip to the Mainland

Hop the ferry to Playa del Carmen and you're a short drive from the Yucatán's famous cenotes — natural freshwater pools hidden in the limestone jungle, with water so clear it glows. Swim, snorkel, or simply float in the cool shade. Pair it with lunch on the mainland and you're back at the condos in time for sunset on the veranda.

An Afternoon Above the Sea

Beach Terraces & Quiet Coves

Some of the island's loveliest afternoons are spent on a shaded terrace perched over the water — a daybed in the shade, the turquoise sea just below, and stone steps leading straight down for a swim. Order something cold, open a book, and let the hours drift by.
